Active Shooter Instructor is a 5-Day program designed to provide the essential skills to successfully stop a violent, active attack. Upon successful completion of the program, the officer will have all of the relevant knowledge, information and hardware to begin building an interal Active Shooter Trainign program at their agency. The program utilizes both live-fire as well as force-on-force to teach the following concepts; history of active killer events and response strategy, response mindset, LER Response Model, basic movements, solo rescue, partner/team rescues, fighting to a fixed position, approach considerations, countering resistance, open air movements, pressured reponses (speedbumps), roles of all responding officers, basic ballistic breaching introduction, coordinated services, and crisis communications. Potential instructors will be evaluated on multiple phases of the course as well as being required to pass a shooting evaluation, and a drill presentation evaluation. This course is specificallyand sharply focused on teaching officers the best tactics and procedures to save lives. From that standpoint, the bulk of the time spent is on immediate, close repsonders and does not focus, at any legnth, on overall big picture topics such as Command & Control, establishing a layered perimeter, implementing the ICS or investagiative functions during such events.
Course schedule is appoximately 0800 - 1700 each training day. Monday, Thursday and Friday will be spent in the NLTA Training Area and classroom. Tuesday and Wednsday are conducted on the range.
